The Roaring Aughts is a participatory art project examining the relationship between the first decade of the 21st century and the second decade of the 20th century.
When: Saturday, August 1, 2009, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Where: The Public Library @ The Brewery
2100 N Main A 15
Los Angeles, CA 90031
323-342-1977
Throughout the project we will focus on how objects are created, how neighborhoods are lost, and how people are broken through a series of “Production Hours” taking place on six alternating Saturdays in Lincoln Heights and San Pedro.
Michael Rochlin, author and Los Angeles historian, will be leading an informal discussion on labor for our first shift. Rochlin has written numerous books on Los Angeles history including Ancient LA which was endorsed by Mike Davis and Kevin Starr.
During the production shifts we will be be screen- printing fabric with icons of men and women. The prints represent the 898,863 people in Los Angeles who live below the poverty line.

Participants are invited to assist in the production. At the end of the evening a prize will be presented to the hardest working “employee.”
Hors d’œuvres and drinks will be served.
The Roaring Aughts is a collaborative project between Edith Abeyta, Randall Fleming and Browne Molyneux

Thanks, Carol.
Saturday’s session was productive. There were a few strikers that arrived “mid-shift” and taunted us with anti-work slogans.
